BALLET/POINTE

Classical Ballet training provides the foundation for all forms of dance and is highly recommended, especially in the early years.  Students can begin at any age as Ballet will help improve all aspects of your body’s fitness including posture, muscle tone, flexibility & core strength as well as developing your musicality, strictly & discipline.

 

Seriously Dance follows the Royal Academy Of Dance (RAD) Classical Ballet syllabus. Exams are optional & designed to build up the confidence & experience of each student.

 

Students wishing to participate in Pointe must be assessed by a qualified Physiotherapist as well as a Seriously Dance Ballet teacher. Students must also take 2 Ballet classes per week including their Pointe class

 

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary is an expressive dance form with a free, artistic & creative feel. Contemporary draws on Classical Ballet technique, however unlike Ballet, Contemporary often focuses on floor work & freedom of movement. Principles of contemporary dance include centering, alignment, gravity, contraction, release & suspension.

 

Contemporary is set to modern music & incorporates partner work, solo work & improvisation.

 

LYRICAL

Lyrical dance embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, acrobatics, & contemporary while still maintaining it’s individual style. Lyrical places a strong emphasis of story telling & emotion through movement. The style is usually danced at a faster pace than ballet but not as fast as jazz.

 

TRADITIONAL CHINESE DANCE

The art of Chinese dance traces its origins to a time before the appearance of the first written Chinese characters. Chinese dance, as a comprehensive art form, is an important part of the ancient Chinese term “Yue" & has its own unique vocabulary, meanings, and ordered structure that enable a dancer to fully express their thoughts and feelings with ease and grace.

 

JAZZ

Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

 

Seriously Dance follows the Australian Teachers Of Dancing (ATOD) syllabus. Exams are optional & designed to build up the confidence & experience of each student.

 

Seriously Dance has recreational Jazz classes for students who do not wish to participate in Examinations

 

TAP

Tap is a traditional style of dance using shoes with metal plates attached to the bottom, & striking the floor, creating rhythmic choreography. Tap focuses on musicality & percussion, as well as technique & choreography.

HIP HOP

Hip-hop dance is an umbrella term encompassing street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping which were created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the United States. This class incorporate technique & choreography in a fun environment.

MUSICAL THEATRE

Musical Theatre focuses on bringing together the disciplines of singing, acting, and dancing, to create a complete story or presentation. Musical Theatre classes strengthen these elements by working on Broadway repertoire, interpreting it both musically and dramatically, then creating staging & choreography for performance. The Musical Theatre classes explore a diversity of rehearsal tools & techniques in pursuit of a dynamic and authentic performance. 

 

SINGING

This class can help you improve your voice/singing through proper breathing, posture, tone production, intonation, diction, phrasing & ear training. This will help you gain confidence & consistency in your singing, whether you want to sing for enjoyment, school plays, auditions, or something else, this class  will help you reach your full potential.

 

ACROBATICS

Acrobatics is a fast paced & energetic mat based class where students can master handstands, cartwheels, walkovers, partner & group lifts, & dance choreography in a reassuring, safe environment.

 

Our teaching staff are certified with the internationally recognised Acrobactic Arts organisation. Based on Ballet, and with a tick of approval from Cirque de Solei, the Acrobatic Arts curriculum has a strong focus on technique, progression, strength, balance and flexibility, and embraces age-appropriate, encouraging, fun based, teaching methods. Exams are optional and designed to build up the confidence and experience of the dancer.

 

SERIOUSLY STRETCH

Get those high kicks higher, those splits longer & those back bends more flexible. This class is for students that want to take their flexibility to the next level. This class is an all round stretch class suitable for all students of all ages, including adults.  If you want to improve your flexibility then this is the class for you.

 

DANCE TECHNIQUE

This class is for students that want to take their technique to the next level. Incorporating Jazz Technique & including Kicks, Turns, & Leaps, this class is a fantastic way to accelerate your overall dance technique
